Bullet Time

The Brief

Using available equipment setup a rig which would trigger twelve DSLR camera's. Allowing the images to be collected after the shoot and stitched together to create a "Bullet Time'' effect.

R&D

A number of solutions were considered, but all involved specialised USB hardware and software.
Finally the only way forward was to apply wifi technology. As the camera's available for the test (Nikon D5100's) were not wifi enabled, we configured a number of laptops with free photo capture software and tethered them with the standard USB cable.

Laptop

The capture software used was the only one which had a shortcut key to trigger the shutter. This was essential as the laptops were going to receive a trigger activate via a unix keystroke command over the network.

Laptop

Apple Remote desktop was used to send the terminal command to all the laptops at the same time. This in turn triggered all the camera's
The fist test was very successful but only three camera's were used. Further tests will use up to twelve camera's.
